2026-2027 GVCB Season Rollout
from your conductor Dr. Matthew Williams
To the Green Valley Concert Band community,
It’s hard to believe that we are now in my second year as conductor for the Green Valley Concert Band. It was such a joy to share our music with you last year and I am looking forward to more new experiences this year. The GVCB has a prominent place in the Green Valley community, all made possible because of your longstanding support and patronage. The greater Tucson area has many opportunities to support the arts, and your choice to support one of the finest wind bands in the area is much appreciated. We have some fun concerts and great music planned for you this year (more details below), and I look forward to seeing you at our concerts throughout our season. Please join us, say hello, and come be a part of our community!
Down Memory Lane
10/18 at CPAC, 5:00 pm
Music has a strong connection to memory. We open our season with a collection of music that is sure to spark feelings of nostalgia. From the 1940’s to the 90’s, we sample a variety of artists and medleys that defined generations. Whether it’s Ol’ Blue Eyes, the King of Swing, or the soundtrack to an animated feature, you’re sure to hear something familiar.
Warm By The Fire
12/13 at Sahuarita District Auditorium, 3 pm
Come join us and get in the holiday spirit! We’ll showcase some of the incredible talent in the GVCB with a duo clarinet concerto embedded amongst both traditional and newer takes on holiday favorites. This concert will have something for everyone, even the Scrooges!
Dancing the Night Away
1/17 at Sahuarita District Auditorium, 3pm
Come get your groove on with the GVCB! Music and dance have long been intertwined and this concert will highlight some of the many genres that exemplify this connection. Whether you’re a Shark or a Jet, or channeling your inner Eliza Dolittle, we are sure you will be tapping your foot and feeling those moves!
Do You Hear the People Sing?
2/28 at Sahuarita District Auditorium, 3pm
Folk songs have long been a way for people to connect through music. They help connect us to place, remember our history, and stir emotions. For this concert, we highlight music drawn from folk song, and song more generally, drawing upon a wide variety of genres and locales. From Australia to Greece, France to the USA, we hope to inspire and delight with this tribute to song.
The Finale Concert
4/11 at Sahuarita District Auditorium, 3pm
You are in for a treat as we wrap up this season! GVCB welcomes back internationally-acclaimed composer Frank Ticheli, presenting a unique opportunity to witness a composer leading a group through their music and hear them talk about the emotion, intent, and process of writing their music. We’ll also showcase our talented flute section and bring the season to a joyous close with the finale from the Symphony No. 3 by James Barnes. You won’t want to miss this!
